Creamy mac and cheese made in one bowl in the air fryer. No boiling, no draining. Just mix, cook, and add cheese on top. Ready in about 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 100g elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 2 cups 480ml full cream milk
  • ½ teaspoon chilli flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅓ cup 35g grated mozzarella cheese, divided
  • Salt to taste (start with 1/4 teaspoon)

Instructions

  • Get a deep oven-safe bowl that fits inside your air fryer basket.
  • Add macaroni, milk, chilli flakes, oregano, black pepper, salt, and 1 tablespoon of the grated mozzarella. Stir well to combine.
  • Place the bowl in the air fryer basket. Cook at 185°C (370°F) for 20 minutes.
  • At the 10-minute mark, carefully remove the bowl and stir the macaroni well. Return to the air fryer and continue cooking.
  • After 20 minutes, check that the pasta is soft and the milk looks thick and creamy.
  • Spread the remaining mozzarella over the top. Air fry at 185°C (370°F) for 2 to 3 minutes, until the cheese melts and turns lightly golden.
  • Remove from the air fryer and rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the macaroni is fully submerged in milk before cooking.
  • Stir at the halfway point to stop sticking and ensure even cooking.
  • Grate the cheese fresh from the block for the smoothest melt.
  • Best served right away. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 day. Add a splash of milk before reheating.
